Writing Guidelines:

    • Please send a copy of your manuscript -- no originals.
    • Limit: 1,500 words.
    • Poetry and prose are accepted.
    • Please follow these guidelines: double spaced text, one inch margins, your name and manuscript title included at top of all pages, number all pages.
    • Please include the entry cover sheet.

Artwork Guidelines:
Paintings, Cartoons, Illustrations, Photos, Sculpture, Pottery, Batik, etc.

Hardcopy

    • Please send a copy of your artwork -- no originals.
    • Photographs are accepted - especially useful for 3-dimensional artwork.
    • Grayscale and color photocopies are acceptable.
    • Copy the image at 100% if possible; however, reductions are permissible
      for images over 8.5 x 11 inches.
    • Please print computer generated artwork on high quality paper at a minimum
      of 600 dpi.
    • Please include the entry cover sheet.

Digital

    • Lineart: please save as Bitmap EPS or TIFF at 1200 dpi.
    • Grayscale: please save as Grayscale EPS, Tiff or PDF at 600 dpi.
    • Color: please use CMYK and save as an EPS, Tiff or PDF at 600 dpi.
    • Compression: choose Macintosh compression methods for files over 1MB.
    • Fonts: please include a copy of all bitmap screen fonts and corresponding
      printer fonts that are used in your file; however, the best option is to
      convert all fonts to paths.
    • Send the digital file by email or mail the file on CD, floppy disk, Zip disk.
    • Please remember to mail your entry cover sheet and reference the file name.

 

(Writing and artwork that is featured in the online edition may or may not be included in the print edition of Student Bylines. We'll let you know if you're work is going to be used in either one. You will receive payment for publication in the print edition, but not in the online edition.)
